Specular Glow

August/18 2009 by Karol

A lot of people use a Glow layer in their Ventuz scenes to give objects a shiny look.
But they usually pass the complete object through the glow shader. This results in unnatural light effects which does not correspond to the laws of shading.
Actually a glow effect should only occure in the area of specular highlights.
Attached is scene which demonstrates a specular glow.  The drawback of this rendering technique is that an additional rendertarget is needed.

STEREO for the eyes

August/5 2009 by Andre

zweiB, a company offering solutions for events, fairs, digital cinema and media production has successfully tested a setup for interactive live stereoscopic shows.

Using Ventuz as a real time presentation solution, zweiB achieved to force Ventuz to run in a stereoscopic mode putting out images in HD (1920×1080) separately for the left and the right eye. This works with any Ventuz presentation in which objects are arranged on the z-axis. Depth perception and out-of-screen effect can be controlled in real time, which is important as a comfort stereoscopic effect has to be adapted on the projected screen size.

zweib_blog

The stereoscopic presentation is projected with a Christie CP-2000, a 2K 3-chip DMD™ DLP projector designed for digital cinema equipped with a 6kW Xenon Lamp providing up to 21,000 ANSI lumens brightness.

The XpanD system connected to the projector syncs the shutter glasses worn by the audience providing the separation of the images for the left and the right eye for enabling the stereoscopic perception.

zweiB also successfully tested this setup for direct-x based games and the system is furthermore capable to blend between stereoscopic sources such as live stereoscopic cameras, stereoscopic films, stills, e.g.

A really interesting one…..

Ventuz … a bunch of party animals!

August/4 2009 by admin

Wow! What a great night!

I hope everybody who joined the housewarming-/summer-party in the Hamburg office last friday enjoyed it!
If the strength of the headache the next day is an indicator for the quality of the party, it must have been a great party!

Now we are looking for pictures, videos, Chiu from SungSimonDesign is looking for his RayBan-sunglasses…. I am looking for the hour between 1am and 2am (missing some memories)…..

In Exchange I could offer the phone number of Sarah – our beautiful Hostess! ;-)

Special Thanks to: Deutsche Werbewelt for the Beamer which we used to make this incredible visualization on our building, Stereolize / Second Unit for sending Julia and some content ;-) , Jan Turlach – the Illuminator – for his great job, Ralf Rose – the DJ – for the tunes, the Hamburg Police – for coming at 2am for the first time, the weather god – for not sending rain, our neighbors for not calling the police, the butcher for the catering, Hubert for the drinks, SungSimonDesign and Randel KG for celebrating with us!

More pictures and videos can be found here
